Shirley Alanguilan Dizon, age 78, entered into eternal rest on November 25, 2025. She is lovingly survived by her stepchildren, Myra (Brian) Glover, Myrna (Gary) Guese, and Jackie; her grandchildren, Rosemarie, Catherine, Charlene, Julian, Jared, Calista, and Jacek; her great-grandchild, Eli Ross; her sisters, Editha (Manny) and Teresita (the late Nomer); and her brother, Voltaire (the late Evelyn). She was also a cherished aunt and cousin to many.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, the late Emeterio P. Sr. and Julita R. Alanguilan; her brothers, the late Angelito (Divinia) and Emeterio Jr. (Bernadette); and her beloved husband, Alfredo Dizon.
Born on December 23, 1946, in Santo Angel, San Pablo City, Philippines, Shirley graduated from Feati University in 1972 with a degree in chemical engineering. She began her career at Tantico Enterprise, Inc. in Lucena from 1974 to 1975. In 1976, she emigrated to the United States, settling in Chicago, where she began working at Wesley Jessen (later Ciba Vision). She dedicated herself to her work and built a long, successful career there until her retirement in March 2009.
On September 15, 1986, Shirley married the love of her life, Alfredo Dizon. They celebrated their church wedding on September 15, 1990. Through their marriage, Shirley embraced her role as a devoted stepmother to Myra, Myrna, and Jackie, and in time she was blessed with grandchildren and eventually the joy of becoming a great-grandmother.
Shirley had a generous spirit and a gift for hospitality. She loved cooking and hosting gatherings—whether a simple birthday celebration, an elaborate baby shower, or a relaxed backyard barbecue. After every event, she could always be found tidying up late into the night, making sure everything was spotless and in its place. She was known for her meticulousness, her sense of style, and her fondness for jewelry and purses.
In her later years, Shirley found great enjoyment in visiting the casino—fondly referred to as “her school”—with her sisters, Edith and Agnes, and later Tessie, along with her close friends. As her health declined, her niece Ruth lovingly brought her to American Place in August 2025. Shirley was able to make one final casino trip this year; although she didn’t win, she delighted in the experience and cherished that day.
Shirley will be remembered for her warmth, her dedication to family, her lively spirit, and her unwavering generosity. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A visitation will be held at Oehler Funeral Home, located at 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, on December 12, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The funeral Mass will take place at Saint John Brebeuf Parish, 8305 N. Harlem Ave, Niles, on December 13, 2025, at 10:00 am. Interment at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery to follow.
