

Virginia Florence Simpson (nee Buckland) passed away May 27, 2022, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by husband Jack Simpson, sister Audrey Korecky (George) and stepdaughter Carol Watson (Richard). She is survived by stepdaughter Judy Current (Warren), niece Nancy Ostrowski (Allen), Nephew Scott Korecky (Sharon), Nephew Barry Korecky (Brenda) and Niece Sherry Gabrielatos. Her legacy also includes step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Virginia was born November 16, 1925, in Chicago, IL, to the late Albert Leroy and Florence Elizabeth (nee Koch) Buckland. She worked at the Wheat Flour Institute, the Commodity Exchange, Jackson Golf Shop and sold real estate for 10 years. An avid golfer, Virginia played tournament golf with the park district, participated on teams at various clubs on the North Shore and became a member of Thorngate Country Club. In 1968 she married Jack Simpson and moved to Dallas, TX, where she served as a Disaster Center Manager with FEMA. After Jack passed away, she settled in Mt. Prospect, IL and joined St. Paul Lutheran Church and volunteered there for many years. Of all her philanthropic work, most dear to her heart was being Drive Chairman for the sponsor parent board of Children’s Home and Aid for 13 years and later serving as their Board President. She also served as secretary of her investment club.
Virginia enjoyed writing letters and making phone calls to stay connected to those she loved. She was a committed Mickey Mouse fan and enthusiastic party planner. Virginia will be remembered as one who cherished bringing family together and keeping in touch with her many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11:00 am at Swan Lake Chapel on the grounds of Ridgewood Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 N. Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines, IL 60016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children’s Home and Aid, 200 W. Monroe St., Suite 2100, Chicago, IL 60606.
