Woo Young Kim

Woo Young (Park) Kim, age 78, passed away February 7, 2025 at Niles Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Niles, IL from stroke complications. She was born September 17, 1947, in Seoul, South Korea, a daughter of the late Sang Joon Park and Soon Ok Kim. She was the youngest of three with older brothers, Shin Young and In Young Park.

She is survived by her son (Scott), daughter-in-law (Deborah), daughter (Carolyn), son-in-law (Leonard), and grandchildren (Alexander, Hayden, Greyson, Parker, Naomi, Sydney).

A loving wife and mother who was a nurturer and supporter at heart, she was known for a calm demeanor, wanting to ensure everyone had a good meal or two, and seeing the best in people. While she never got to work in her area of study, Nutrition and Food Science, she ensured her family received the benefits of her knowledge.

Getting married in 1973 from a blind date, she and her husband, Kong Woong, started a family right away with a honeymoon baby. Since immigrating to US in 1986, her life had been a series of adjustments and growth she had never envisioned. After the passing of her husband in 2002, her world was focused on her kids and eventually grandkids. Her health deteriorated significantly over the past 6 years, resulting in her joining her soulmate in heaven 24 years after his passing.

We will all miss her infectious laughter, a dry sense of humor, and oatmeal with fish sauce, her grandkids loved so much.

A visitation for Woo Young will be held Friday, February 13, 2026 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL., followed by a celebration of life service beginning at 6:30 at the same venue.
