

Fyfe, John Barhydt, 1/27/1925 - 8/7/2016 John (Jack) Fyfe was born in Ann Arbor MI to John B. Fyfe, Sr. and Jessie Constant Murphy Fyfe. He graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant navigator on a B17, 15th Air Force, 5th Wing, 463rd Bomb Group, 772nd Squadron. He was stationed in Foggia, Italy and was a prisoner of war from March to June of 1945. He returned home to Ann Arbor and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1951. He began his engineering career at Central Specialities in Ypsilanti, MI and moved to Argus Cameras in Ann Arbor a year later. He began his career with the Hydramatic Division of General Motors in 1960 and retired as the Superintendent of Plant Engineering in 1987 after 27 years of service. He married Martha Jane Hooper on July 18, 1953 and they raised a family of 3 daughters, Janet Martha, Julie Ann (Jack D. Frost) and Jennifer Keese (John F. DeArmey). Jack was a true gentleman who represented everything great about “The Greatest Generation”. His family was a top priority in his life and he filled it with love and laughter. He was a lifelong Episcopalian and has been part of the St. James Episcopal Church family in Dexter for over 60 years. He was a civic-minded member of the Dexter community and served on the Webster Township Zoning Board and Planning Commission for many years. He gave generously of his time to the United Way of Washtenaw County and other charitable organizations. He was a member of the local Farm Bureau group and strongly supported agricultural land preservation. Jack enjoyed raising his cattle and assisting his daughters with horses and apples. He was the kind of man who was there to help other people make things happen; if it was important to you, it was important to him. Birding was a hobby that both Jack and Martha enjoyed together. They traveled with friends to many places around the world to go birding; watching birds from the picture window of his house also gave him great pleasure. He enjoyed his later years with his lovely companion, Irene Aseltine of Sarasota, FL. visiting their families together. He and his loyal cribbage partners played together weekly for over 30 years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Martha, and his two sisters, Marjorie Elizabeth Wells and Jessie Constance Reissig. He is survived by his children, grandchildren Mark W. Tornow (Katie), Andrew J. Tornow (Lindsey), Patrick F. DeArmey, Joseph F. DeArmey, John F. DeArmey, Alex M. Frost, 2 great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at St. James Episcopal Church, 3279 Broad St., Dexter, MI 48130 at 1pm.
