Joined his Lord and Savior March 13, 2011 at the age of 87 years. Born in Detroit, he served in the United States Army during World War II. Graduating with a Masters Degree from Wayne State University, Jim taught elementary children for 32 years, retiring from the Taylor School system. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis and her children, John (Betty) Given, Cynthia Given and Stephen Given; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephew, Michael (Marci) Mulligan and their children, Kristi, Kirk, and Katie; and nieces Kathleen Wylie and Ricci Mulligan and several relatives in Canada and Michigan. A service was held Wednesday afternoon at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Home in Dexter, Michigan and was conducted by Bishop Madsen, from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ann Arbor Ward, where Jim served in the priesthood for many years. Donations may be made to the church or to The Residence of Arbor Hospice.
