

Dettling, Richard Edward of Dexter, Michigan died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at his residence. He was 90 years of age. Richard was born on February 25, 1924 the son of Alfred Sr. and Mary Dettling. Richard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter since 1936 and had attended school there as a young boy. He left high school and entered the United States Army Air Force in 1943 and served as a supplier in Iceland during WW II. On October 19, 1946 he married Gladys Boiciuk and together they shared 68 years of marriage. He and Gladys loved traveling in their RV together to attend antique car shows, craft and art shows and flea market shopping. After 30 years of service as an Exchange and Repairman for Michigan Bell Telephone Richard retired on April 1, 1977. He was a charter member of Dexter American Legion Post 557, Dexter Antique Car Club, AT&T TelecomPioneers and CWA Local 4011. He enjoyed woodworking and building and had done many repairs at his church, he also enjoyed flea markets and collecting. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife; Gladys, children; Deborah Dettling and Richard A. (Sharleen) Dettling, grandchildren; Juliette (Anthony) Trinkle and Andrew (Karra) Dettling, great grandchildren; Alissa and Ryan Trinkle and Sofia, Anabell and Victor Dettling. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; William, Alfred and Tom and a sister; Mary Estelle. A funeral Mass and wake will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church 3430 Dover St., Dexter (corner of Fourth and Dover) with the Mass being celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 with the family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. The wake will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014 with a scripture service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mass cards and donation envelopes for St. Joseph Catholic Church will be available at the wake.
