Born February 11, 1962 in Dearborn, Michigan, she was the daughter of Frederick J. and Stella S. (Godzik) Glassford. Sandy graduated from Franklin High School in Livonia in 1980 and then attended the University of Michigan where she graduated with her degree as a dental hygienist in 1982. Upon graduating, she began work with Dr. Jeffrey Hurst in Jackson, MI. That is where she stayed for her entire 39 year career, serving multiple generations of patients who became like family. Sandy was lovingly called “Honey” by her family and close friends. Her #1 hobby was her niece, Cricket. She was an animal lover to the fullest and planned to retire when Cricket became a veterinarian next spring so they could work together with animals every day. She loved to take trips when Cricket traveled for school and work and to visit her many cherished cousins all over the United States. She traveled through 46 U.S. states and Canada, often with her dogs, and planned to complete the remainder of the 50 states in an RV when she retired. She developed a passion for wildlife and nature photography while on these trips, her favorites were the safaris in South Africa and Kenya. She mostly enjoyed her frequent visits to cousins in northern Michigan. She enjoyed following family and friends on Facebook and social media and lived her dreams through their travels and lives. Sandy also enjoyed live concerts, shopping for herself and others, and participating in and photographing Schutzhund club dog training. She completed the Citizens Police Academy with the Jackson Police Department and was a proud University of Michigan alumnus and avid life-long fan.
She is survived by her mother, Stella Glassford; one brother, James Glassford; one sister, Sharon Raschke and her husband Gary; one niece, Christine Donahue; and first cousins, Julianne Godzik and Darwin Kenney and his wife Cathy. She also leaves behind many close cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and generations of patients. She is survived by her beloved German Shepherds, Twist and Dew, and her Eclectus Parrot, Fizz.
Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Glassford; her grandparents, Peter and Helen (Kargol) Godzik; her uncle, Edward Godzik and his wife Justine; her aunt Dorothy (Glassford) Kenney; first cousins, Eddie Godzik and Beverly (Kenney) Maddaford and her husband Alan. She was also preceded in death by her beloved Labrador Retrievers, Cocoa, Hershey, and Snickers, and German Shepherds, Cola, Shasta, and Moxie.
Sandy was the most generous person who donated to any charity people asked her to. Contributions may be made in her memory to any cause that was special to her, such as finding a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Alzheimers; protecting endangered animals or wildlife; or supporting students at the University of Michigan or Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
