Warner, Alfred Vaughn, age 86 of Digby, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at his residence at Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in Digby, on January 13, 1939, he was the son of the late Vaughn and Olive (Specht) Warner. He had been married for 60 years to the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth (Jefferson) Warner and was heart broken after her death on July 29, 2021.
He is survived by his sons Michael Warner, Dartmouth; Robert (Carol) Warner, Lunenburg; granddaughters Sarah (Philip) Peyton, Tennessee; Erin Warner, Blockhouse, Nova Scotia; and great granddaughter Ayla Peyton, Tennessee and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Jean (Warner) Raymond of Digby.
Alfred repaired cars as a teen and after graduation, worked as a mechanic for a short time and then was employed by the electric company at Sissaboo dam. He then moved his family to Shelburne and worked for the boy’s school as an auto mechanic teacher. While working he took evening classes and summer school to obtain his teaching licence. Upon completion of his license, he accepted a position teaching Intermediate industrial Arts and Drivers Ed at the high school in Digby where he later retired. To keep the winters busy during retirement, he decided to sell cars.
Alfred loved to be active. He spent many enjoyable hours playing golf, square dancing and curling with his wife Mary. He also tried his feet at clogging. He played pool, darts, cribbage and canasta. In his later years he would play cribbage (and sometimes 45’s) at the Curling club once a week and almost daily with neighbour, Norma. Alfred also loved working in his vegetable garden and blackberry patch. He was ALWAYS feeding the birds! They brought him great joy!!
Alfred had the utmost respect from his students and coworkers in school and from his family and friends. In his retirement years he would often be stopped when out somewhere with a “Hi Mr. Warner. You taught me in school and I really enjoyed my class with you”. Alfred liked and cared about people! Whether he was teasing you or just talking with you, he wanted to know how you were. Alfred loved his family and was especially proud of his two granddaughters and was smitten with his great granddaughter.
A celebration of life for Alfred will take place on June 12, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Digby United Church, 15 Prince William Street, Digby, with a reception to follow at the Digby Fire Hall, 163 First Avenue (in the church back yard). A private Interment for both Alfred and Mary (they wanted to be buried together on the same day) will be at another time.
Special thanks to Dr. Black, Dr. Balser and the nurses and staff at Tideview Terrace for providing Alfie with a safe and caring home environment. Donations in memory of Alfred can be made to the Digby Grace United Church, Tideview Terrace and/or Digby Baptist Church.
