Avard Lorraine Wagner, age 90 of Weymouth, NS, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Danvers, NS, he was the baby of eight children of the late Elijah and Nellie Wagner. Avard was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Colette Wagner on December 27, 2022.
After retiring from working 35 years at General Motors in Oshawa, ON, Avard returned to Nova Scotia where he lived in Belliveau Cove with his wife Colette. Avard absolutely loved baseball - playing, coaching and watching games on TV and in Weymouth. He was a very talented pitcher whose nickname was “Whiz Wagner.” He was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs (when they were winning).
His other passion was being a drummer in a country band. He loved the drums; started playing at 23 years old and played into his 80’s.
Avard’s passing has left a hole in the hearts of his daughters Lynn Oliver (Gary), Rhonda Cocker (Derek), and Donna Epstein; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was a loving Uncle who will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
Visitation for Avard will take place on Thursday, August 7th, 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Jayne’s Weymouth. Funeral service will be held on August 8th at 2pm at the Weymouth Church of Christ, with reception to follow and burial in the Weymouth Church of Christ Cemetery.
