Barbara A. Kaulback passed away peacefully on July 2, 2022 at Tideview Terrace Long Term Care Home with her daughter by her side. Barbara was born in Digby on July 28, 1926 to John and Alice (Sanderson) Baxter.
She was raised by her paternal grandparents Ganny and Agnes Baxter. Although mobility issues for a number of years kept her close to home, she was able to live alone in her own home with the compassionate care provided by the homecare workers of the Digby/Clare Home Support Agency until May 2018. After some time spent in the Digby General Hospital and Mountain Lea Lodge in Bridgetown, in April 2019 Barb became a resident in Tideview Terrace in Digby. During her working life, Barb was employed as a clerk at H.T. Warne's Store, then at Ted Sanford's Grocery Store in downtown Digby before taking on her role as secretary for several lawyers in Digby, the superintendent of schools for Digby Regional High School and was Executive Secretary to the Digby District School Board. She taught shorthand and typing in night classes at the local high school. A passion for ceramics led to her and her daughter obtaining teacher certification and they opened B&B Ceramics which they ran out of a studio in her basement for a number of years teaching ceramic classes two nights per week. In her younger years she enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, knitting, photography, reading, gardening and traveling. Barb loved her church and church family and filled several volunteer positions over the years. Feeding and watching the birds were her passion in later years. Barb and her one true love Murray traveled extensively all over the USA, four return trips across Canada and three 28 day trips overseas including such places as England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the Scandinavian countries up to the Russian border, France, Denmark, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Her family was her greatest interest and joy in life.
Barb is survived by her daughter Beverley Dickie (Peter), Digby; grandson Shawn Kaulback (Tracey), Stillwater Lake NS; granddaughter Dawn Doucette (Shawn Uhrman), Red Deer AB, great granddaughter Tanna Kaulback, Stillwater Lake NS; half-sister Emma Brown (Bill), Brockville ON; sister-in-law Hazel Davis, Digby; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Murray in 2003; brother Murray Baxter; sister Florence Prosser, half-sisters Eileen Tupling, Virginia Faulkner and Mae Munroe; half-brother Jackie; and several nephews.
The family cannot thank the staff at Tideview Terrace enough for the care, love and compassion shown to Mom and the family during her three plus years of residency and especially during her last number of days. Donations in memory can be made to Digby Baptist Church or Tideview Terrace. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6th from 6-8pm from Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. A funeral service will be held at the Digby United Baptist Church, 2 Mount Street, Digby at 2 pm on July 7, conducted by Rev. Donald Robertson. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery following the reception. Share a memory or leave a condolence at www.jaynesfuneralhome.com
