

Ethel Urena (Foster) (Andrews) Shortliffe passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on July 9th, 2011, in her 97th year while residing at Tideview Terrace in Digby; NS.Ethel was born and raised in Bloomfield, NS, the daughter of Mr. Hantford and Effie (Marr) Foster. Ethel was married to Harris Reid Andrews who lost his life in a car/drowning accident in Metaghan, NS in 1958. Ethel later was briefly remarried to Henry Shortliffe (deceased) of South Range, NS.Ethel attended North Range school in her earlier life and later, following the death of her husband Harris Andrews, attended Digby Regional High to complete her high school education and then went on to Nova Scotia Teacher’s College where she obtained her Teacher’s license. She then taught for fifteen years in the Digby school system before she retired in 1979. Ethel, until recent years and declining health, was always active in the community and particularly the life of the Baptist Church in Barton, NS. She was a Sunday school teacher and Organist for many years and also for a time served as a clerk. Ethel is survived by her sons Reid (Heather) Andrews, Stouffville, Ontario and their children Michael (Lorie) and their children Spencer and Alanna; Tracy (Doug) Smith and their children Joshua and Elizabeth. Robert (Barb) Andrews of Digby and their children Harris Andrews of Abbotsford, BC; Lisa Staszkiel (Steve Hahn) of Whitehorse, YT; Matthew (Lis) Freemantle and daughter Caroline, Whitehorse, YT; Darcie (Matt) Sherrick of Anchorage, Alaska and their son Clayton; Reginald (Aurora Bicudo) Andrews and their children Damon and Maddison; Ayla Kempton (Mike Whitehead).Ethel is also survived by her sister, Ruby Jean (Foster) Fleet currently residing in Ontario. Ethel was predeceased by her two brothers Charles Foster and Arthur Foster and two sisters, Stella (Foster) Charte and Alice (Foster) (Andrews) Innis.The family wish to thank Dr. John Black and the caring staff at Tideview Terrace for their excellent and tender care of Ethel. Visitation 2-4 & 7-9, Wednesday, July 13th in Jayne’s Funeral Home 7 Birch Street in Digby (245-2525). Funeral service 2 pm, Thursday, July 14th in the Barton Baptist Church, Rev. Roy Berteaux presiding. Interment in the Barton Cementery.Ethel’s wishes are that donations are to be made to either the Barton Baptist church or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
