

Gertrude Miriam Benson passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025 in Digby General Hospital. Gertrude was the daughter of Loran and Mildred (Wright) Potter. She was born on January 17, 1941, in Annapolis Hospital.
In 1962 Gertrude married Bob Benson of Bear River where they have lived for the past 63 years.
She began her official working career as a telephone operator in Bear River followed by supporting her husband in several businesses and ventures. This included the Packett Restaurant, Bear River Home Furnishing LTD, gift shop operation and Churchill Mansion Country Inn for 28 years.
Gertrude was also employed by Bear River Frenchy's later becoming the owner. She also operated Yours and Ours Dress Shop in Bear River.
Her main enjoyment was cooking. Gertrude was a member of the Bear River Baptist Church, she also served on the executive of Bear River New Horizons and the Bear River Board of Trade.
Gertrude is survived by her husband, Bob Benson of Bear River; granddaughter, Destiny Lejoure and great-grandchildren, Orianna and Lyshaud Lejoure all of Edmonton, AB; brothers, Harley (Faye) of Virginia East, Harry (Tanya) of Greenwood and Ross (Susan) of Cornwallis Park. She was predeceased by her sister, Margie Cooper (late Ron); her son, Peter Benson; her brother, Philip Potter and her nephew, Bradley Potter.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 2pm from Jayne's Funeral Home, 15 Birch Street, Digby, NS.
Memorial donations will be greatly appreciated and can be made to New Horizons in Bear River.
