Helen was the beloved daughter of Joseph (Joe) and his wife Pearl (nee North) Theriault of Brighton and Digby, NS. Helen was severely affected by cerebral palsy and required total care throughout her life. Our mother was completely devoted to Helen and always made certain she was a vital part of family life. It was only after mum was well into her 60s that failing health forced her to find another home for her beloved daughter. The nearest and only home willing to take such a relatively young person was North Queens; it soon became obvious to mum and our family that this facility was by far the best new home for Helen. Helen was quickly accepted by the kind folks at North Queens as a part of their family, and she continued to be loved and superbly well treated throughout her life.
Helen is survived by brothers, Hal, Digby and David, Yarmouth; sister-in-law, Camilla Meisner, widow of our brother, Philip, Halifax; brother-in-law, Donald Watkins, widower of our sister Sandra, Yarmouth; nephew, Christopher (Kristen) Theriault, and his children, Serena and Barrett, Toronto; and several cousins.
Helen Was predeceased by our father, mother, sisters Sandra and Jean, and brother Philip; and several aunts and uncles.
Cremation has take place under the care of Jaynes Funeral Home, Digby; service and interment will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Helen can be made to the North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia, NS.
We believe Helen was given to us to teach an important lesson about unconditional love. Although unable to communicate freely, Hele was as much a participating member of our family as any of us; our mum made certain of that. Growing up with Helen, we learned understanding and patience, the importance and normality of differences between people, the value of kindness and love. I told her a few days before her passing that our mum, dad, sisters and brother were waiting with open arms of love to welcome her to her place of peace and rest; she could walk, run, or wheel into their embrace as she began a new phase of existence.
