JEFFREY, Laura Virginia (Wyman), 88, died Thursday, Nov. 3 in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in Brooklyn, Yarmouth County, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Marion (Crowell) Wyman. Like her mother, Laura was a teacher and began working at age 16 during the Second World War when teachers were scarce. Later she attended Normal College in Truro. Most of her teaching career was spent in Sandy Cove where she met her late husband Fenwick and raised her family. Church and family were at the centre of Laura's life. She was a faithful member, organist and Sunday School teacher at Sandy Cove United Baptist Church. She was active in a number of church organizations including the Women's Missionary Society. An animal lover, Laura was particularly fond of the family's Labrador retrievers and in her last years at home, her loving cat was her constant companion. Reading was her favourite past time which she still enjoyed as her short-term memory diminished. Laura retained her optimism and humour and to her last day she occupied herself with thoroughly reading her newspapers. She was predeceased by her husband Fenwick; sister Ida; brothers: Nelson, Donald and John; granddaughter Catherine Carver. She is survived by daughters: Carolyn of Ottawa; Davene (Michael Flemming) of Dartmouth; sons: Robert (Joy) of Digby; Mark (Janet) of Little River; grandchildren Fenwick, Adam and Philip Jeffrey, Victoria (Carver) Bear and Devon Theriault; and great-grandsons, Brody, Montgomery and William. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 2pm, Tuesday November 8th, from Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby 902-245-2525 with pastor Noel Facey presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sandy Cove United Baptist Cemetery or a charity of choice. Leave condolences at www.jaynesfuneralhome.com
