Betty passed away peacefully in her sleep August 18th, 2012 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Delia Bell.
Betty was born in Weymouth Mills February 25th, 1929 to the late Elias Benjamin Sabean and Celeste (Comeau). She is survived by her five children, Robert (Bev), Ronald (Delia), Arnold (Virginia), Sandra Cloney (Mike) and Tanya Whynacht (Chris). Betty had nine grandchildren, Wayne, Derrick, Kimberly, Michelle, Stephen, Melanie, Sarah, Alex and Ainsley; and five great-grandchildren, Allison, Taylor, Lauryn, Allie and Sophie. She loved rocking her “babies” to sleep when they were little and beating them at a game of cards as soon as they were old enough to deal.
She is also survived by her siblings, Ella, Geraldine, Margaret, Rose, Neil, Dorothy, Harry, Gloria and Linda; as well as her niece, Ida, who was like a sister to her. Betty was pre-deceased by her husband, Donald, sister, Kay and brother, Junior.
Betty loved life. She was an avid card player and always won when she had control of the pencil. She had enjoyed going to BINGO with her friends over the years, she loved big family gatherings and Sunday dinners with her children and grandchildren. Betty had a great sense of humour and everyone who knew her was entertained by her quick wit and sharp tongue. Betty endured her illness with dignity and seldom complained. She enjoyed her many visitors and always brought a smile to their faces with her stories and antics.
As well as being a stay-at-home mother, Betty enjoyed her part-time job as a cleaning lady. She took great pride in her work and always ensured that her own house was spotless; the family often joked that we should have bought shares in Electrolux based on the number of vacuum cleaners she went through.
Betty will be greatly missed by her family as well as many close friends including Louise, Helen, Carol and Marg to name a few.
Visitation will be 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm Tuesday, August 21st, 2012 at Jayne’s Funeral Home, Weymouth North. Betty’s service will be 11am, Wednesday August 22nd, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, in Weymouth. Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Interment in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Weymouth. Donations in memory of Betty can be made to the Canadian Lung Association or charity of your choice.
