Born in Weymouth, Nova Scotia, Melvin was the son of the late Edouard Dugas and Arsenna (Melanson) Dugas. A man who truly enjoyed life, Melvin had a deep love for swimming and water sports, being outdoors, travel, and the adventures that came with working abroad. He was always happiest when he had a project on the go—never hesitating to lend his skills in construction or help family, friends, or neighbours with whatever needed doing.
Melvin was a familiar and friendly face at the local diner, where he enjoyed being part of the coffee club, sharing laughs and stories. Known as a great storyteller, he had a way of drawing people in with his warmth, humour, and lived experience. Above all else, Melvin cherished his family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply and was always ready with a helping hand or a bit of well-meant advice.
Melvin was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sherley Dugas (Lampkin); his brother, Donald Dugas; and his sister, Rita Comeau.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Tracey Barr (Steven), Melanie Mackay (Donald), and Nicole Dugas (Shawn); his son, Francois Laverdure; his sisters, Alvina Miller and Donna Wilson; his six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Dominic, Valerie, Gabrielle, Zackery, and Andrew; and his two great-grandchildren, Delilah and Barret.
A celebration of Melvin’s life will be held on Saturday April 25, from 1:00–3:00 pm at Jayne’s Funeral Home, 15 Birch Street, Digby. For online condolences please visit www.jaynesfuneralhome.com
