

Barr, Randall “Budd” passed away July 10, 2016, surrounded by family in the Digby General Hospital. Budd was born in Digby on September 10th, 1927, and was a son of the late George F. and Lillian (Hazelton) Barr. Budd worked with the C.P. and C.N.Marine Atlantic for 43 years and retired January 1, 1986. He enjoyed fishing , hunting , camping and was a licensed guide for these activities for Nova Scotia for many years. Budd was a life member of the Digby East Fish and Game Association and was one of the original directors. He was a life member of the Digby Ground Search and Rescue, retired member of the Digby Fire Department, where he served as President and Captain of # 1 Company. Budd was also an instructor for safe gun handling. As an avid sportsman , he played hockey and baseball for the Digby Ravens and was a member of BRAC where he was recording Secretary for 28 years. Budd not only coached minor hockey and baseball, he was also on the Executive as well. He volunteered for many years with the Digby Blood Donors Clinic and the Christmas Daddies. Since golf was one of Budd’s favorite pastimes, he spent a considerable amount of time at the Digby Pines Golf Resort, pursuing his passion for the game and for exercise . Budd spent many hours searching for lost golf balls. As a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, he was on Council for many years. As a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knight’s of Columbus, he also served as Grand Knight. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris; his son John and daughter in law Charlene. He was predeceased by his half brothers Arthur and Frank Handspiker, half sisters Florence Van Tassell, Cora Skillian and Marion Morehouse. Visitation will be from 7-9pm Tuesday , July 12, with a Knights of Columbus Tribute Service at 8pm all from Jayne’s Funeral Home 7 Birch St. Digby. (902-245-2525). Funeral Mass will be 11 am Wednesday, July 13, from St. Patrick’s Roman Church, Digby. Father Albenie d’Entremont will officiate with cremation to follow. Burial will be at a later date in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, King St. Digby. Donations in memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
