Jim Vogt, 80, of Reedley passed away December 27. He was born January 16, 1934 in Corn, OK to Jacob J. and Lizzie (Kliewer) Vogt. Jim graduated from Corn High School in 1951, and then attended Corn Bible Academy for one year before traveling to California to study at Fresno Pacific College. He ultimately graduated from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK. He later earned a Master’s Degree from Fresno State University. Jim worked as a teacher at Immanuel High School for 3 years, moving then to Kings Canyon Unified School District working as a teacher and administrator there, totaling over 20 years. After retiring from his work in education he worked for another 20 years in agri-business.
He married Aldene Joy Friesen on July 9, 1954 in Fresno and together they raised three children. Jim loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports: soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, swimming, basketball, water polo and golf. His major in industrial arts was also something that gave him the joy of working with his grandkids in his shop.
Jim is predeceased by his parents; siblings Clara Johnson, Alfred Vogt, Jacob Vogt and Ivan Vogt; and granddaughter Elizabeth Bertelsen.
He is survived by his wife Aldene; children Randy Vogt and wife Toni, Mike Vogt and wife Lisa, Cheri Bertelsen; grandchildren Danny Vogt and wife Amy, Stephen Vogt and wife Alyssa, Anne (Bertelsen) Maher and husband Michael, Darin Vogt, Jennifer Bertelsen; great grandchildren Braden, Addison, Shailyn and Jeremiah Vogt, Payton and Clark Vogt, Gabriel Maher; siblings Paul Vogt and Joyce Hinz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday, January 5, 2015 at 10 am at the Reedley Cemetery with a Memorial Service following at 11 am at Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church.
