Born on August 17, 1964, in San Bernardino, California, Troy was the cherished son of Paul and Nancy Lawson. In 1965, the Lawson family moved to the Central Valley, where they expanded their farming legacy through Lawson Brothers.
Troy grew up in Orange Cove, attending local schools before graduating from Reedley High School in 1983. A gifted athlete, Troy excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, earning letters in all three sports. His teammates and coaches not only admired his talent but also forged lifelong friendships with him. Troy’s love for baseball carried over into his adult life, where he inspired the next generation as a coach. He was passionate about teaching teamwork, resilience, and the value of hard work to the youth of Orange Cove.
A true sports enthusiast, Troy was a devoted fan of the Oakland A’s and the Oakland Raiders. Growing up in the 1970s and 80s, when these teams dominated their leagues and enjoyed some of the most successful periods in their histories, Troy became captivated by their grit, passion, and winning spirit. Watching countless games with family and close friends, Troy’s love for these teams became a defining part of his life and a shared bond with his children. Whether it was cheering for the A’s during their championship runs or celebrating the Raiders’ iconic moments, Troy’s fandom brought joy, excitement, and cherished memories to his family. His passion for these teams lives on in his children, who inherited his enthusiasm and continue to share in the legacy of his sports devotion.
A dedicated citrus farmer, Troy poured his heart and soul into the land he loved. Through his efforts, he made significant contributions to the agricultural community, embodying the values of diligence, care, and perseverance. His legacy as a farmer reflects not only his commitment to his work but also his honorable desire to provide for his family.
