Beatrice Travis

A graveside service will be held at New Montefiore Cemetery, 1180 Wellwood Ave, West Babylon, NY 11704, US, on March 23, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Beatrice was born in the Bronx on July 26, 1935. She and her sister Frances were raised there by her beloved parents and a nearby extended family of aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins.

She graduated from City College in 1956. She met her husband Bill while was stationed in the army in New Jersey and after they married, moved to his home of Chicago. She taught in the Chicago public school system and gave birth to her first child Lloyd. They returned to the New York area and settled in Kings Park in 1963.

While raising a family she earned a master’s degree in reading and was was a devoted teacher in Smithtown schools for more than 30 years.

Bea was a loving person who respected everyone she met. She enjoyed laughter and could find the humor in life.

She is survived by her children, Jeanne (Nick) and Lloyd (Marianne) Travis and her daughter-in-law Ann Travis and her sister Frances Spiegel. She was predeceased by her husband William and son Eric.

Donations may be sent to Long Island Cares or the Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center in Huntington.
