

PANISH, Edith passed away on April 28, 2017 just a few weeks before her 95th birthday. She is survived by her 4 loving children, 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, and two brothers. She will be sorely missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Sunday May 7th at IJ Morris Funeral home of Dix Hills. There will be a catered reception beginning at 10 am prior to the start of the 11am Chapel Service. Interment will immediately follow at Old Montefiore Cemetery in St. Albans NY.

Edith Madeline Kastenbaum Panish, age 94, from New York passed away peacefully on Friday morning, April 28th in Beaumont, Texas.

Edith was born on May 25th, 1922 in Tarrytown, New York. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Herman Kastenbaum, brother Eli and husband, Sam Panish.
She is survived by 5 siblings Patsy, Maureen, Leon, Irene, and James, four children, Francine, Helaine, Lawrence and Jacqueline. Ten grandchildren Jennifer, Joyce, Maxfield, Leo, Shelly, Bethany, Adam, Joshua, Benjamin & Daniel and two great grandchildren, Ava and Alissia.
Edith grew up in Far Rockaway by the beach. She loved the ocean and was a great swimmer. After graduating high school in Far Rockaway Edith joined the Army as a WAC (Woman’s Army Corp) and she was stationed in Italy. She served in the Army for four years.
Upon returning to the United States Edith was on the beach in Far Rockaway where she met the man of her dreams Sam Panish. Sam and Edith were married on December 25th, 1949. They had four children and lived in Bellmore, Long Island.
Edith was the ultimate mom, her life was about raising her children and always having a home for all of them to visit. She was a member of The Bellmore Jewish Center, educated at Nassau Community College, and a member of the Metropolitan Opera House, and loved the NY Yankees. She lived in New York until 2012, then moved to Beaumont Texas were she spent the remainder of her years.
