Marlene Bloom (née Gordon), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was born to Tommy and Martha Gordon on July 27 1935, and raised in Philadelphia in a close, family-centered home alongside her sister Wilma and brother Leonard. With strong academics and a bright future, she could have easily pursued college, yet she always knew her true calling was to build a family of her own.
As a beautiful and vivacious young woman spending summers in Atlantic City, she met the handsome and charming Morty Bloom, who would become the love of her life. Together they built a marriage rooted in devotion and warmth, beginning their family when Marlene was just twenty. They welcomed their children, Laurie and Nathan, and later moved to Long Island to continue raising their family with love and commitment.
After Mort’s untimely passing in February 1985, Marlene faced life’s challenges with courage, determination, and unwavering dedication to her children. Though she had never planned to enter the workforce, she was undaunted — first trying a variety of jobs and ultimately becoming a certified bookkeeper and accounts manager, building a long and successful career with private businesses. Through her hard work, generosity, and readiness to help others, she ensured comfort and stability for her family.
Marlene remained active, social, and deeply engaged in life even at 90. She maintained a wide circle of friends, enjoyed movies, plays, lunches, and community activities, and was energized by connection and companionship wherever she went. She leaves behind her daughter Laurie (Ajnira), her son Nathan, and her cherished grandson Max Sormanti Bloom. She was well loved and will be missed by many.
