

Dr. Stanley “Stan” Burton Klein, 98, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully at his family home in Dix Hills, NY on April 20, 2025. Stanley was born on January 2, 1927, in the Bronx, NY, to Louis Francis Klein and Rose Hecht Klein. After completing his initial education, Stanley joined the US Army and served honorably in the US and Philippines from January 1946 through February 1947. Stanley then entered New York University, where he earned his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees. Stanley was married briefly to Joy Gloria Schwartz, and they had one son, Robert. Stanley began his lifelong teaching career in Plainview, NY as a High School science teacher, and was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Anne Gionsiracusa, while assigned to monitor a study hall with her. Stanley taught at several schools and served briefly as the Assistant to the Superintendent of the Copiague School District. Stanley earned his Ph.D. from New York University while teaching full time. Stanley and Anne married, and moved to Dix Hills, where they lived and raised their family. Stanley joined the faculty at Long Island University, CW Post Campus and taught there for over 50 years, until age 92. During his tenure at CW Post, Stanley was promoted from Assistant to Associate and then Full Professor, as well as Chair, Department of History and Political Science. Stanley dedicated his work to fostering the professional and personal development of his students, and was recognized as a mentor, student and faculty advocate, and treasured colleague. Stanley treasured his time on campus, especially working with so many talented students during his time there.
Stanley was very active in local civic and political associations, including service as an officer in the Arturo Toscanini Lodge of the Order of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America. Stanley provided commentary on political events on local Television and served as Historian for the Town of Huntington for several years.
Stanley is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Anne Klein: his children: Robert Allan Klein, Francesca Klein Litow, Lisa Rose Klein, and Daniel Richard Klein; and his grandchildren: Marcie Elyse Timmons, Benjamin Louis Hendler, Remi Alexa Klein, Nina Marguerite Hendler, and Roe Klein.
Stanley was predeceased by his son, Lawrence Andrew Klein, and his grandson, David Mark Klein.
A burial ceremony was held at Long Island National Cemetery on April 23rd. A memorial service will be planned on the CW Post Campus this summer to celebrate Stanley’s life.
Donations in Stanley’s memory can be sent to Long Island University, where the family has established an endowment fund in his name.
