Taffy Lefkowitz passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Married to Bill Cama, she had three daughters: Wendy Crane (married to Stephen Crane), Candy Maxian (married to Mark Maxian), and Sherry Beck. And four grandchildren, who loved her dearly: Nicole Beck, Aly Maxian, Taylor Beck, and Jax Maxian..
She remarried to Bernard Lefkowitz, her soulmate, and loved her daughters as his own. They enjoyed gardening, golfing, and bonsai. As members of the New York Bonsai Society they had over 100 bonsai trees in their backyard. They played golf at multiple golf courses and visited many US national parks.
After Bernard passed, Taffy moved to The Meadows at Mitchell Field, where she ran the exercise class twice a week for many years; if someone came in late she would have the whole class do 5 more sit-ups. Decorating the club house was her “job” as a member of the entertainment committee. Taffy would decorate the club house in the appropriate theme and dance the night away. At Halloween she would win the costume contest dressing up as a court jester, or witch, or any fun costume she could find.
She not only exercised her body (she did yoga with Jack LaLane and her children would often join her) she exercised her brain. Her female friends played cards once a week. After playing rummy they played “constipation” a fast paced card game. Her grandchildren couldn’t even keep up with her! Just this past September, Wendy and Candy were shocked when she legitimately beat them in rummy!
Taffy was a real jokester trying to make people laugh. As a founding member of the Fairway Women’s golf league, she dressed up as a 10 year old for the 10 year anniversary party!
Artistic as a painter and jewelry maker, she made many people happy with her gifts.
Taffy was a multi-faceted person who will be missed dearly by her daughters, grandchildren, and those who knew her. May God rush her speedily to Bernard’s side so they can dance to her brother, Joe Tasz’s, polka band!
