Horace Calvin Kirkland

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keener Batchelor officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Kirkland was born November 16, 1926, in Covington County, to Vander A. Kirkland and Alberta Cooper Kirkland. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII and in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he lived most of his adult life in the Auburndale, FL area. He retired and moved to Dothan in 1993.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters, Arthur V., Roscoe, Jack, Dee, Otis, Annie Bell Whitehead and Nannie Mae Harper.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much. He was our family’s last survivor of the “Greatest Generation”.
