Lillian B. Hayes

The family will receive friends at Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.

Mrs. Hayes was born October 15, 1918 in Colquitt, Georgia the only child of Andrew and Clifford Peterson Balkman. At the age of 3, she moved to Newark, NJ. She attended 18th Avenue School and later graduated from Westside High in Newark. She then completed her nursing degree and practiced as a pediatric nurse at Beth-Israel Hospital in Newark, NJ for many years. In 1942, she married John A. Hayes and to this union four children were born.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Hayes and a son, John Andrew Hayes, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, David B. Hayes of Dothan, AL, Paula Haley of Atlanta, GA and Juet Lewis of Newark, NJ; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
