

Carey A. Zachos, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and devoted member of her community, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 5, 1941, in Decatur, GA, Carey was the daughter of the late Ralph Sticher and Clara Belle Lee Sticher. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul M. Zachos, Sr.
A longtime member of the Douglasville First United Methodist Church, Carey was an active participant in the church’s Chancel Choir and the Lively Sunday School Class. She also contributed to the church’s Backpack Ministry and was an enthusiastic supporter of the church community. Prior to moving to Douglasville, Carey was a proud member of the Atlanta Greek Orthodox Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.
Carey’s devotion to others extended beyond her church, as she was a dedicated volunteer at WellStar Douglas Hospital for 15 years, where she served as a patient assistance volunteer, offering support and care to those in need.
Throughout her career, Carey worked as an administrative assistant at Safeco Insurance, contributing her skills and work ethics to her profession.
Carey is survived by her beloved son, Paul Zachos Jr.(DeeDee); daughters, Helen Zachos and Sherri Adams(David); 3 grandchildren, Christina Evans(Brooks), Jared Mauney (Sharon), and Paul Zachos III; as well as 8 great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Gooch (Alan), Bella Evans, Katie Evans, Lily Evans, Caroline Evans, Loralye Evans, Blasson Mauney, McCade Mauney. One great-great grandchild, Leigha R. Gooch.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her for her kindness, compassion, and unshakeable faith.
A visitation will be held at Douglasville First United Methodist Church on Friday, January 2, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. A reception will follow in the church's Huffine Hall.
Carey will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Tucker, GA beside her husband, where she will be remembered and honored by her loved ones.
