A proud and dedicated patriot, Dick served his country with honor for nine years. Three of those years were in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, followed by 10 years of service as a police officer and then six years in the United States Navy during the Cold War. After his military service, he continued his commitment to public service through a 20-year career as an engineer with the Federal Communications Commission.

He had a deep passion for woodworking and took great pride in maintaining and restoring watches and clocks, preserving their function and history. As a talented gunsmith, he founded and operated Precision Gunworks, where he was known for his precision, knowledge, and dedication to his craft.
