Donald Roy Evans, known affectionately as Don, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, at the age of 88. A longtime resident of Douglasville, Georgia, Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Born on August 13, 1936, in Dublin, Georgia, Don lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruth Harper Evans, whose unwavering companionship was a cornerstone of his life. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three daughters: Wendy Brunet (Brad), Nancy Drake (Kyle), and Natalie Towns (Ben).
Don took great pride in his grandchildren: Ian Brunet, Ryan Brunet, Ariel Barnhill, Carter Drake, Ayden Drake, Colson Drake, and Grace Drake. He was also cherished by many nephews, a niece, and his loving sister, Judy French.
He is preceded in death by his father, Hollis Evans; mother, Malina Evans; brother, Jimmie Evans; and sister, Jean Bracewell.
After graduating high school, he moved to Atlanta and started his career at Sears and Roebuck. In 1958, he enlisted and served in the United States Air Force until 1962. After military service, he returned to Sears where he worked diligently for many years and retired from there in 1996. An avid gardener and dedicated pine tree farmer, Don found joy in the beauty of nature and the work of his hands. He had a remarkable ability to repair anything, using both skill and ingenuity to solve problems and help those around him.
He was a man of deep faith who loved the Lord and led his family with wisdom, kindness, and unwavering devotion. He served as a deacon for many years at Sunset Hills Baptist Church. His legacy of love, integrity, and faith will live on through the generations he nurtured and inspired.
Don will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those he touched.
