Dorothy Fiveash Merritt

Dorothy Fiveash Merritt, age 99 of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025. She was born on March 2, 1926, in Waycross, Georgia, daughter of the late Osceola C. Fiveash and May Cribb.

She supported the World War II effort as a welder in the shipyards of Charleston, South Carolina. She married her childhood sweetheart, Cyrus Merritt, in 1950, and they moved to the Atlanta area where they raised their four children. During her career she worked for 34 years as the Manager for the Georgia State Patrol Driver Services in Atlanta.

Dorothy was a devoted follower and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an active member of the West Metro Church of God for many years. She was also well loved and active at Bright Star United Methodist Church. Dorothy was known for her sweet and generous spirit and the kindness she shared with all she met.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus Aaron Merrit; her daughter, Elga, and her husband, Eddie Cantrell; and her son, Cyrus Aaron (Rusty) Merritt, Jr.

She is survived by her children; Rocky (Jo-Ann) Merritt, Connie (Richard) Jacobus; daughter-in-love, Alisa Merritt; grandchildren: Jackie and John Merritt; Destin Jacobus; Michael (Tiffany) Cantrell; Randy (Kristi) Cantrell; Tanner (Rebecca) Merritt; Ethan Merritt; Rebekah (Conner) Ray; great grandchildren: Amberly (Ethan) Campbell; Michael, Micah, Merritt, Katelynn and Kendall. Dorothy was also very excited that her family would welcome another great grandchild and her first two great great-grandchildren later this year.

The family will receive friends at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of the Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Reverend Glenn Rountree and Reverend Orlando Evans officiating.

Interment will follow the service at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens on 722 Conley Road in Forest Park, Georgia 30297 at 3:00 PM.
