Born on May 29, 1941, in Slabtown Holler, Hazard, Kentucky, Gip was the son of Granville Engle Sr., a coal miner, and Gertrude Engle. His early life in the hills of Kentucky instilled in him a deep respect for hard work, family, and the simple joys of life.
Gip dedicated over 30 years of service to General Motors, beginning on the assembly line and eventually moving into the Maintenance Department before retiring. His steady work ethic and pride in craftsmanship left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.
A true Kentucky gentleman, Gip was a devoted fan of the Kentucky Wildcats, faithfully cheering on both basketball and football through every season. He found joy in the outdoors—hunting, fishing, and spending time camping at the lake with family and friends.
Gip’s will be remembered not only for his dedication and love of nature but also for the quiet strength he carried through life. He will be deeply missed.
Gip is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carol Engle; daughter, Tina Engle Mooney and her husband, Ron; brothers, Jack Engle, and Tom Engle; sisters, Bobbie Dixon, Sue Caudill; grandchildren, Joshua Mooney, Melissa Courson and Brian Mooney and great grandchildren Elijah, C.J., Wesley, Paisley and Riley.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 19 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at Rosehaven Cemetery. Whitley Garner at Rosehaven is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements of Granville “Gip” Pearl Engle.
