
James Kendrick Gammill, Sr. died peacefully Friday, December 10, 2022 surrounded by members of his family. He was born to Mary Kyle and Haven McKinley Gammill on September 9, 1940. He was the youngest of 11 children. His parents and eight brothers and sisters preceded him.
Before relocating to Georgia, James was a hard-working man. He worked in the field of construction as a master carpenter. He owned his own company where he built about 300 homes around the Mississippi Delta. James was an active member at St. John’s United Methodist Church. He assisted with Habitat for Humanity and St. John’s Methodist Metamoris Mexico Missions.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Janice Gammill; son, Ken Gammill, Greenwood, MS; daughter, Kathy Lang (John), Inverness, MS; son, Jon Gammill (Tammy), Starkville, MS; son, Mark Gammill (Kelly), Douglasville, GA; granddaughters, Sara Debow (Nick), Carrollton, MS and Caylen Huddleston (Cass), Winterville, MS; Taylor Gammill, Douglasville, GA; grandson, Jake Gammill, Starkville; great-grandchildren, Clayton and Avery Kathryn Debow, Carrollton, MS; sisters, Jeannette Elliott, McDonough, GA and Annette Keady, Houston, TX.
A memorial service will be held this Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Dorsett Shoals Baptist Church. At a later date, the family will announce a celebration of life service in Greenwood, MS.
A special thanks goes out to the medical staff at WellStar Douglas Hospital, especially Dr. Medel Reyes.
