Mary was born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania on January 24, 1939 to the late Joseph Angello and Angelina Creo Angello. Singing and music were always a big part of her life. She grew up singing Latin in church and joined her Father in song on his radio show in the 1950s. This love of music continued as she played the piano at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Douglasville for over 20 years. Mary also shared this love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren teaching them how to play.
Mary graduated from the nursing program at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania in 1959 and worked as an ICU nurse in five different states retiring from WellStar Douglas Hospital at the age of 72. Everything she did was for her family and she chose to work the night shift so that she would always be available for them on little sleep.
Mary loved to garden, was a member of Douglas County’s Master Gardeners and was also an incredible baker and cook. She lovingly baked pies for her grandchildren and son-in-law using blueberries grown in her own garden.
As of late, Mary most enjoyed traveling to Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia to the Cedar Grove Community Center on Tuesday nights to listen to live music and participated in the Silver Sneakers Program at OneLife Fitness.
Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Julie Zalesky; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Keith Abass; adopted son/best friend, Wayne Bennett; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Johanna Angello; grandchildren, Courtney Shumaker (Anthony), Morgan Cecere (John), and Savannah Zalesky; great-grandchildren, Landon, Colton and Harper; as well as several nieces and nephews.
