

Michael Alonzo Woods, a devoted husband, loving family man, and beloved friend to many, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025. Born on August 15, 1951 in Louisville, KY, Mr. Woods lived a life full of joy, love, and purpose.
He was a true “momma’s boy,” who carried the love and lessons of his upbringing throughout his life. Michael was a man of great style, always dressed sharply with a clean-cut, polished look that reflected his pride in himself and the respect he showed to others.
A devoted Louisville Cardinals fan and baptized member of Greater Salem Baptist Church, Michael carried his faith and passion into everything he did. He never met a stranger, greeting everyone with a warm smile that was nothing short of electric. His infectious joy made him the life of the party, and he brought laughter and light to all who knew him.
He was an entrepreneur at heart, owning and running several successful businesses. He loved to travel, exploring new places and sharing adventures with his wife, family, and friends, all of whom he cherished deeply. He was a person who truly understood the value of relationships, and his love for family and friends was evident in everything he did.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and inspiration, and his memory will be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Mr. Woods is survived by his loving wife of over 20 years, Tommie Woods; children Latrell (Shekevia) Hawkins, Michael (Terri) Courtney and Alonzo (Frances) Chappell; grandchildren, Lamondre Chappell, Jalen McNeal, Jamison White, Tre’von White, Jasmine Chappell, Jarrell White, Tarell White, Angel Chappell, Jaylia White, James White Jr, Kingston Hawkins, Mason Hawkins, Alonzo D. Chappell Jr, Zoe Chappell, Parker Chappell; Dakota Chappell, Brandis Courtney, Gayal Courtney Willie Courtney and Kayla Chappell; brother, Vincent Woods and sister-in-law, Arlene Woods and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Woods Sr and Louise Woods-Harris; daughter, Ashika Renee Chappell; brothers, Humphrey Leonard Woods and Rev. Robert Louis Woods, Jr; grandparents, Luke Gordan and Elizabeth Holmes; aunt, Joan Dobbins and sister-in-law, Peggy Woods.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb 2 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Whitley Garner Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of Michael’s life at 12:00 pm in the chapel. In accordance with his wishes, his body will be cremated privately after the conclusion of the service.
