Ruthann Butscher, age 75, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024. She was born January 18, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her family moved to Ocala, Florida in 1956, where she spent most of her younger years. Family was the center of her life. Ruthann was a caring and giving person and had a love for children which lead her to a career in education as an elementary teacher. Ruthann obtained her Associate’s degree at Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina and completed her Bachelor’s degree at Florida State University. She taught nine years in Marion County, Florida before moving to Georgia in the late 1970s. She began teaching in Douglas County School System in the late 1970s and finished her career there retiring in 2002. During her tenure in Douglas County, Ruthann completed her Masters and her Specialist degrees at West Georgia College. Ruthann remained active in the Douglas County Retired Educators Association, her sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa, and PEO International, a women’s organization that encourages loyalty and friendship among women. She loved to travel, both domestic and abroad, with travels including such places as Canada, Europe, Taiwan. She also enjoyed visiting family in Florida and California. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crafting and watching the Hallmark Channel.
Preceding her in death were her parents, William Charles Butscher, Jr. and Ruth Kathryn (Kaenzig) Butscher; sister, Janet Butscher; and a brother, William “Butch” C. Butscher III.
Those left to cherish her memory are brothers, James W. Butscher (Linda) and Thomas K. Butscher (Patti); nieces and nephews, James W. Butscher, Jr., David M. Butscher (Becky), Kimberly Kinsey (Kevin), Kevin Butscher (Mary), and Sean Butscher; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, a host of friends, coworkers and all of her former students.
A Celebration of Life will be planned and announced at a later date.
