

Thomas R. Bevan, age 88, of Treasure Lake, Du Bois, died on July 7, 2010 at the Du Bois Nursing Home. Born May 30, 1922 in New Kensington, PA, he was the son of Reginald T. and Muriel May Bevan. He was married to Ann Rigante Bevan, who survives.
He was a graduate of New Kensington High School, class of 1940 and the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He served as a U.S. Naval carrier-based fighter pilot and landing signal officer during World War II.
Following the war, Mr. Bevan was an accountant for General Electric Corporation for 15 years, during which time he served for three years as finance instructor for Junior Achievement of America. In 1962 he was named treasurer for the Ervite Corporation of Erie, PA. In 1965, he and three other persons started the Kensington Electric Lighting Manufacturing Company, for which he served as treasurer. In 1969 he accepted a position as plant controller for the Marienville plant of Glass Containers Corporation. In addition, he functioned in the capacity of travelling controller for several other plants within Glass Containers Corporation.
Following his retirement in 1983, he assisted his son, Richard, in the development of QPS Print Group, known at the time as QPS Data Forms. From 1986 until his death, he served as treasurer for the company.
Mr. Bevan was a 32nd –degree Mason since 1956, and a Shriner for over 50 years. He was an active member of the Treasure Lake Lions Club since 1990, serving as treasurer for four years, and was awarded the Lion of the Year Award in 1996 and the Melvin Jones Award in 1998. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Du Bois, PA.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas R. Bevan, Jr., of Erie, PA, and Richard W. Bevan of Du Bois, PA; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was married to Mary Margaret Skilling on July 17, 1944. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2000. He was also pre-deceased by his parents, and one sister, Elizabeth Endean.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, July 9, 2010 at Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc., DuBois with Pastor David Bish officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard at the funeral home following the service. Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 7 to 9:00pm with Masonic Funeral Rites conducted by the Garfield Lodge #559 at 7:00pm. A second viewing will be held tomorrow from 10:00am until the time of service. The Treasure Lake Lion's Club will conduct a funeral service at 10:30am. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park in New Kensington, PA.
