She was born on January 24, 1937, in Lyallpur, India, to the late Dipty Mian Muhammad Sharif and the late Bismillah Begum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Basharat Munir Mirza; her daughter, Rashida Mirza; her parents; five older sisters; and two older brothers.
A lifelong and devoted member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Ameena lived a life rooted in unwavering faith in Allah and a deep commitment to Islam and Ahmadiyyat. Her quiet strength, patience, and steadfast belief guided not only her own life but also the lives of those around her.
For 53 years, Athens, Ohio, was her home. There, she cultivated a life filled with simple joys and deep connections. She loved tending to her plants, especially those she carefully selected each week from the farmers market, and took particular pride in her beloved peach tree. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome – she found joy in cooking and feeding others, hosting dinner parties, and gathering loved ones around her table.
Ameena cherished time spent with family and friends. She delighted in playing canasta with friends and later, rummy with her children and grandchildren. In her sewing room, she lovingly created and mended clothes, quietly caring for her family in countless ways. She also enjoyed watching Muslim Television Ahmadiyya (MTA), Days of Our Lives, and Pakistani dramas.
She will be remembered as the kindest Nanijaan and Dadijaan – an unassuming matriarch of a beautifully diverse and far-reaching family. A peacemaker at heart, she made everyone feel that they belonged. Patient, calm, wise, and gentle, her presence was a source of comfort and tranquility. She was softhearted, warm, hospitable, and deeply loving –someone whose home was truly wherever she was.
Her family will miss her deeply – especially her cooking, from cherished treats like China grass, snow egg, namak paray, and gulab jamun, to even her memorable jello salads. They will miss her ready smile that never left her face, her remarkable patience, her quiet companionship, and her ability to bring peace to any moment.
She is survived by her children: Laeek Mirza, Sameera Basith, Asaf (Laeeqa) Mirza, and Fauzia (Bashir) Asad.
