In memory of the greatest treehouse builder and elevator engineer that I’ve ever met.

Jim And I were  devastated to learn of Dans passing. Dan and Sharon were our first neighbors and they were the best ever. Sharon we are thinking of you at this sad time.  Love thoughts and prayers to you and the family.

My earliest memory of my cousin Dan was the day his family left Mpls for IL.  In my mind he must have been just a toddler.  No one in our family had ever moved away, but that was the start of many trips to Elmhurst, including one Easter, when we all got food poisoning from a local restaurant.  Another time, I remember Dan and his brothers in their basement making TV's, transistor radios, and probably scores of other electronics  (it all seemed a little secret).  Talk about a loud, beer-drinking bunch of brainiacs!  Dan kept in touch with my sister Terry and me over the years.  We shared a mysterious vocabulary of words that our grandparents left us, and I still laugh until I cry when I think about Dan's mastery of "The Dictionary".  I will miss him terribly.

Dan and I were roommates for a year back in college at WIU.  We backpacked in Colorado and had so many other adventures.  I’ll remember him for his uncanny wealth of trivia knowledge, his great sense of humor and all the laughter.  After college we all went our separate ways and lost touch but the memories remained.  My heart and prayers go out to his wis wife Sharon and family.

Dan and I met in the second grade, where we were Cub Scouts in the same den. First, my mom was the Den Mother, and then his mother Rose.  We sat side-by-side mostly, in the fifth through the eighth grade, where we became fast friends.  In high school and college we dated, partied, worked on cars, went to the pool most every day in the summer, and built a lot of forts and a lot of treehouses ……and inspired by school free day adventures into the city to explore tall buildings, decided that we would build a treehouse elevator.  Even we weren’t sure we could really do this…..but we did !  We were best man in each other’s weddings and helped one another to get started in our first houses as new homeowners.   When Dan and Sharon moved to Columbus, away from Chicago, we didn’t see each other so much anymore; but I will always have a special place in my heart for my great friend Dan.  I can honestly say that my friendship with Dan changed my life in so many ways, I can’t even count them. God‘s blessings and peace to you, good friend; and condolences to your family. I know they will miss you sorely in the years to come.   
Btw, I know that you pulled some kind of fast one to win that pinewood derby in Cub Scouts.   Tom

I have fond memories of Dan ever since we came to Columbus on the same day in 1982 from Chicago to work on the AEP headquarters building in downtown Columbus.  Dan also introduced me to early Sunday morning golf first at Minerva Golf Club and later at Mill Creek and we had a number of other great memories over the years.  My condolences to Sharon, Kate and John.
