Dorothy M. Sochor

Dorothy M. (Lawrence) Sochor, 100, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, with her family at her side. Dottie, as she was affectionately called, was the heart of her very large family. Mother of 6, grandmother to 16, great-grandmother to 25 and great-great grandmother to 4. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; grandsons Bobby Sochor and Demetrios Manus; and sister, Marie Kern. She is survived by her children: Robert (Marilu), Thomas (Kathy), Patricia (Joseph Paolucci), Michael (Theresa), Debbie (Jeffery), Pattie and Jack (Sherrie); grandchildren: Kathy, John, Justin, Erica, TJ, Debbie, Chrissy, Tara, Craig, Chris, Alyson, Greg and Danny; great-grandchildren: Jordan, Abigail, Joey, Noah, Mackenzie, Jack, Brady, Mason, Sidney, Carson, Katelyn, Alex, Tommy, Sofina, Chase, Chris, Grace, Evan, Hayden, Avery, Camden, Cade, Cooper, Bella and Ellee; and great-great-grandchildren: Carmen, Kentstyn, Maci and Miles.

Dorothy was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April, 4, 1923. She moved to Euclid where she and her husband were founding members of St. Robert Bellarmine Church. They were very active in the parish, with three generations attending St. Robert’s school. She was a second mom to the neighborhood kids on East 238th Street. Occasionally, they would show up at her door with cuts and scrapes that needed to be patched up. They often snuck a pint of ice cream from their stocked freezer. She was a regular on the Bingo scene, sometimes playing up to five nights a week. She really enjoyed going to casinos. Prior to starting her family, Dorothy was a proficient Comptometer Operator. She did the payroll for the Navy while her husband served in World War II. Dorothy made each and every family member feel special whether it was helping her make chocolate, holding an antique doll, playing solitaire under the old hair dryer or picking out a candle to light at church. The Cedar Point family reunions started in the late 1940s and continue today. Dorothy attended this summer, riding the merry-go-round and the train. She loved attending Monday “Wing Nites” at the Lazy Chameleon. She never missed one, even celebrating her birthdays there. At her 100th birthday party, she proudly pointed out the large picture of her that hangs over the bar! When she and her husband moved to Dublin in 2015, they joined St. Brigid of Kildare church. She attended Mass regularly. Her faith was strong and passed down to five generations.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Dr., Dublin, Ohio 43017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 22, at St. Brigid of Kildare, 7179 Avery Rd., Dublin, Ohio 43017, with the Rev. James Black presiding.
