I am so very sorry to hear of Ed's passing. I met Ed in the sociology PhD program at UNC in 1986. We had many classes together and had the same major prof (John D. Kasarda). Ed and I often had lunch together at the Pizza Hut on Franklin Street, across from the Carolina Population Center. I will always treasure Ed's keen mind, quick wit, and good humor. He had strong views and always expressed them eloquently and politely. I can't recall him saying or writing a cross word about anyone or anything. He was a kind man. Ed's scholarship was exceptional, too. Ed was a top student at UNC and was the first in his cohort to land a tenure-track professorship. He published his research in the best peer-reviewed journals and is widely cited by other social scientists. I have so many fond memories of Ed, and I am blessed to have stayed in touch with him all these years. My heart goes out to the Crenshaw family.  May God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) bless them.

I am deeply saddened by Ed's passing and wish to express my deepest condolences to his family for their loss.  I have many fond memories of Ed and have benefited greatly from the ways he pushed me as a graduate student, both in the classroom and as a member of my dissertation committee.  He taught me to think in new ways, challenge my own ideas, and what it meant to do meaningful sociology.  His passion will long be admired and remembered.

Thanks for everything Ed.  You were a great friend and mentor!

I wanted to let you know how saddened I am to hear of your father's passing.  He was a great person, friend, and mentor.  I will never forget the many days I spent in his office learning from him and enjoying his great sense of humor!  

He was often misunderstood in the profession, but I took the time to get to know him and listen to him, and I have taken a lot from his teachings about sociology and life. I am a better person and scholar because of Ed!  I will never forget your father and his influence on my life.  He mattered to me and to many others.

I wish both of you the best in moving past this difficult time.  Ed Crenshaw will be missed but never forgotten.

Ed was my cousin and we spent quite a bit of time together while we were growing up.  My favorite memory is from the other OSU - Oklahoma State University.  We lived in the same apartment complex and got together often for Sunday suppers.  One night I came home and heard a 'critter' in my apartment.  I saw it flash across the room - and it was HUGE!  I called Ed.  He was into Fencing and brought his saber and a bucket.  We trapped what turned out to be a gerbil in the bucket and set the poor creature free in a nearby field,  A few weeks later a neighbor let me know that their gerbil had escaped and were happy that their gerbil had been captured and set free.  Ed, my superhero, and I had a lot of good laughs about our wild game hunt!

I am a cousin to Eddie Mike as he was called growing up. My favorite memory is a camping trip we took. My sister, Joan, Eddie and I were complaining about different things during the camping trip. The three of us sitting in the back seat heard a lecture from my Daddy, Dean Swander, about complaining. From then on we would say for example, my shoes are wet but I’m not complaining. We learned our lesson about not complaining and never forgot it to this day. My condolences to the family. Our prayers are with you.

My deepest sympathies to Ed's family and loved ones. As a graduate student at OSU, I took several classes with Ed. His seminars were enjoyable, challenging and thought-provoking. I will remember him fondly and am saddened to hear of his passing.

I never got the pleasure to meet Professor Crenshaw but he was a very intelligent man and a pleasure to learn from. The only time I got to see him is when we struggled to unmute each other during a one-on-one zoom meeting. He was a professor who I felt truly challenged by in a good way. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

Having set foot in the US in 2000 for the first time, I’d keep tab of what feels home-like. Ed was a main find: upfront, stubborn, helpful, vocal irrespective of how wise the approach, emotional, with a fair share of intellectual contradictions and a great sense of humor to smooth them out. My assertion that he misidentified, nationality-wise, for decades, Ed took with tolerant bemusement and counteracted by sharing neatly packed lunches of American - so he claimed - apples. In Ed I celebrate a dear friend next to the sharp-minded social scientist that helped guide my PhD studies and provided valuable feedback in the years since.

I preceded Ed from UNC to OSU and remember his pride in Brian and Erin as little ones and through the years. My sympathy to each of you and your family at this time.  Ed had unfailing interest in and dedication to his students, their learning and accomplishments.  He was always ready for a good discussion or debate and a hearty laugh. Ed was generous with sharing his opinions and scrupulous about  his research.  I will miss Ed and remember him fondly as a Tarheel, Buckeye, dedicated professor and scholar and genuinely kind man.

Ed made me laugh, think, and challenge my perspective. My sincere condolences.

I took several classes with Ed as a graduate student at OSU. I never bantered with a professor the way I did with him and it made for some of the most enjoyable seminars I have ever taken. He was simultaneously gregarious and cantankerous. He challenged me to think in ways few professors did and I feel like I owe him a large debt for my early intellectual growth in graduate school. I am glad to have known him and am saddened by his passing.

I send my most heartfelt condolences to Ed’s family. I enjoyed working with Ed for eight years, during which time I appreciated our many hallway debates and conversations. They usually involved a disagreement somewhere along the line, followed by a hardy laugh and a big smile at the end. I will miss Ed. His family is in my thoughts and prayers.
