A graduate of Trotwood-Madison High School, Gwen went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from The Ohio State University and later pursued her nursing degree at Columbus State Community College. She began her nursing career at Riverside Methodist Hospital and went on to dedicate 24 years of service to The Ohio State University Hospital.
Gwen found joy in many creative and fulfilling hobbies, including gardening, painting, music, sewing, pottery, stained glasswork, and photography—often capturing moments during her daily walks. She was warm, loving, and kind, with a friendly spirit and a smile that will be deeply missed. Gwen was someone you could always count on; she was simply there when needed.
One of the most cherished memories of Gwen was the happiness she felt when her family gathered together during the holidays. Dan fondly recalls the time she stayed up all night decorating the house for his third birthday after attending school all day—a reflection of her boundless love and dedication.
Gwen is survived by her husband, Ralph; her sons, Daniel and Aaron; her brother, Dana (Paula); her sisters, Robin Messner (Jim) and Heather Ackley (Kevin); and many beloved nieces and nephews: Megan, Andy, and Beth Messner; Tyler and Caitie Earl; Josh and Hannah Ackley; Rainer and Michael Kohlbrenner; and Anthony, Steven, and David Antone. She also leaves behind her cherished dog, Henry, who held a very special place in her heart.
Gwen will be remembered for her gentle wisdom and familiar sayings, including, “It’ll feel better when it quits hurting,” and, “Do you think the rain will hurt the rhubarb?”
Visitation will be held at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 29, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the same location on Thursday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gwen’s memory may be made to the Franklin County Dog Shelter, 4340 Tamarack Blvd, Columbus, OH 43229, or to a charity of your choice.
