James Michael Wines, a.k.a. Mike, 79, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away on May 17, 2024.
Mike was born on July 5, 1944 in Alexandria, Virginia. He was the son of James Lowery Wines and Belva Mae Snead, brother to Daniel Earl Wines (Debra), and Belva Lee Gregory (James), and he married the love of his life, Charlotte Anderson.
Mike is survived by his two siblings; his son James Michael Wines Jr.; stepchildren Stephanie Peyton Goe (Mike), and Robert A. Ketchum Jr. (Lauren); five grandchildren, Ava, Emma, & Aubrey Ketchum, and Benji & Levi Wines; nieces & nephews Mark Wines (Patricia), Steve, Pam, & Marilyn Gregory, and Robin Collins (T.J.). Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Charlotte on August 21, 2021.
Mike received a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Richmond, and accepted a position with McNeil laboratories. Over the years, he went on to work for General Foods, Maxwell House, coffee division. Upon relocating to Montgomery, Alabama, Mike accepted a position with Piknik. In the late 1980’s he launched his own successful business, Regency Travel Agency.
Mike’s love for his beloved wife, Charlotte, and their love of travel, took them on many adventures across the world. Together they traveled to over 30 countries, where they immersed themselves in local cultural experiences. Mike and Charlotte loved cooking together, and would explore new culinary techniques & foods on their voyages. They shared their culinary discoveries with family and friends on “new recipe Sunday” and at their many social gatherings.
Mike loved sharing his beautiful home on the 7th fairway at the Muirfield Village Golf Club, where annually, he and his wife hosted a week of festivities enjoyed by all. Mike loved nothing more than celebrating life with his family and friends. Mike and Charlotte were respected barbecue contest judges. For over 20 years, they participated in the Memphis in May barbecue contest, as well as the Jack Daniels Championship.
Mike and his wife lived by “adding to each other's happiness” and that family and friends are the most important thing we have in life. He will be dearly missed.
A service will be held at 9 AM on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Dr, Dublin, OH 43017, followed by visitation from 10 AM until 12 Noon. Chaplain Jim Faas will officiate. Mike will be laid to rest beside his wife, at Flint Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio, immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Capital City Hospice, or to Alzheimer’s Association.
