Born Jane Susanne Martin in Croydon, Surrey, England on May 3, 1945, to Stan and Iris Martin. Jane excelled at sports in school, particularly in netball and track, and then went on to study shorthand and administration to become a successful administrative assistant. Her skills were later leveraged to a great degree as she worked for Sir Jack Hayward as his primary administrative assistant in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. Jane also gave of her time and was a big supporter in time and treasure to the YMCA, and The Grand Bahama Children’s Home. It was there that Jane introduced her three boys (Giles, Mark, and Jonathan) to the importance of giving back and caring for those who need it most. Above all, Jane cared wholeheartedly for those she met and made great bonds with lasting impressions. For those of us fortunate enough to have met Jane, we will always remember how deep down she truly cared, loved, and supported those who she called friends. Jane has friends in all corners of the world who will truly miss her smile, energy, and ability to talk up a storm. Opinionated for sure, but always with a warm heart and best of intentions. Jane also leaves her heart and lasting imprints on her husband John with whom she shared a loving marriage for more than 50 years.
Reflecting on Jane’s life, we can but celebrate 80 years of life’s milestones with all its up and downs, love and loss, adventures and escapades.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved father, Stan, and her mother, Iris. Jane leaves behind her sister Wendy of Reigate, Surrey, her husband John, her three sons, Giles (Kelly), Mark (Jessica), Jonathan (Heather), and her six grandchildren: Alec, Benjamin, Jack, Oliver, Rachel and Madelaine.
“Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything.”
