Morna Jo Tappy passed away peacefully at her home on June 19, 2025, surrounded by her sister, daughter, and son-in-law in Dublin, Ohio. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, Morna was the daughter of the late Fred Guthrie and Opal Mullen. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Tappy, as well as her brother, Ted Guthrie, and sister, Laura Bell Innocenti.
Morna cherished the many adventures she shared with her late husband, as well as the time spent with family and friends. She was a dedicated wife and mother who always prioritized her loved ones. While she initially enjoyed camping trips with her family, her perspective changed entirely when Bill introduced her to the comforts of hotel stays. Realizing she no longer had to trek to a distant bathroom, Morna happily embraced the convenience of hotels and never looked back.
Morna is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Susan James and her husband, Doug; her son, William E. Tappy III; her sister, Linda Grimes; and her niece, Denise Taylor and her husband, David. She is also survived by her grandsons, Jason Rechtin (Holly), David James (Amy), and Logan Tappy; as well as four great-grandchildren, Bradon and Camryn Rechtin, and Tristan and Michael James.
Morna had a warm and vibrant personality that drew people to her. Her greatest joy came from hosting gatherings, where her quick wit and welcoming spirit made everyone feel like family. Despite the challenges life threw her way, Morna carried herself with grace and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her.
Morna graduated from Wheeling High School in 1951. She worked as a receptionist at Frigidaire until the company relocated to North Carolina. She also held a receptionist position at Reality Executive Decisions until her retirement.
A visitation for Morna will be held Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 10:00 AM until time of her funeral service at 12:00 PM at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, OH 43017. Interment to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park in Lewis Center, OH.
