Mrs. Ramasubbamma (“Rama”) Polepalli Setty, age 81, of Galena, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, January 10, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 8, 1944, in Kalyandurg, Andhra Pradesh, India, the daughter of the late Ramappa and Kamala Gangarapu. She was one of six siblings and grew up in a wonderful and close-knit combined family in India, where the values of love, responsibility, and togetherness were deeply rooted in her life from an early age.
In 1970, Rama immigrated to the United States to join her husband, Dr. Polepalli Sreenivasulu Setty, who was completing his medical residency in New York City. Together, they built what many would recognize as the quintessential American dream. In 1976, they settled in Pennsylvania, where Dr. Setty established and grew his Pulmonology Critical Care medical practice in Connellsville. Rama was his steadfast partner every step of the way, managing the bookkeeping and backend operations of the practice with diligence and care, all while being the epitome of a nurturing, hands-on mother at home. Her infectious energy, strength, positivity, organization, and dedication made it possible for the family and the practice to flourish.
Rama had a natural gift for caring and a deep empathy that touched those around her. She helped others instinctively, whether through a thoughtful phone call, a home-cooked meal, or simply by listening. She served on the board of the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, for many years in a variety of leadership roles, dedicating her time and energy to serving the Pittsburgh-area community with humility and purpose.
Rama was the heart of her family and a pillar of her community. Above all, she was a devoted and unwavering wife and mother, the kind who put her family’s needs before her own and never hesitated to show up, help, or sacrifice so they could thrive. Her love expanded effortlessly as her family grew. She poured herself into her grandchildren, spending countless hours with them, playing games with them, caring for them, cheering them on, and filling their lives with warmth, stories, and laughter. To them, she was a constant source of comfort, joy, and unconditional love. Being with family was her greatest joy, and her presence made every gathering feel complete.
She also cherished time spent traveling with her extended family, creating memories across the United States and around the world. These journeys reflected her love of togetherness, her curiosity, and the deep bonds she nurtured with family near and far.
Rama will be remembered for her boundless love, infectious energy, generosity of spirit, and the way she made everyone around her feel cared for and at home. Her life was a testament to selflessness, resilience, and grace. Her legacy lives on through the family she devoted her life to and the many lives she touched with her kindness.
Rama was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Dr. Polepalli Sreenivasulu Setty. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Kumar (Padmaja Babu), Prathima (Pranav) Virmani, Uma (Srikanth) Dasa; her grandchildren, Shivaji, Sarina, Arjun, and Vikram; her sister Adhilakshmi as well as her many nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017.
