It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Stephan Garner Gerber, 63, of Dublin, Ohio, on February 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He fought with incredible strength, determination, courage, and inspired many with his unwavering spirit.
Steve was born in El Centro, California, to Marian T. Danks and David B. Gerber on December 30, 1961. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to three wonderful grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Raye Lynne Gerber, who he married October 1, 1988; Steve was the proud father of three: Ronnie (Lorraine) Greathouse of San Diego, California, Korey (Madeline Bodie) Gerber of San Diego, California, and Keaton Gerber of Dublin, Ohio. Steve treasured his time with his grandkids Raine, Shepard, Paige. Steve purchased a Harley Davidson so that he and Keaton could ride together. Steve loved attending Korey’s MiLB games.
Steve started his career with the Zales Corporation by working in jewelry stores when he was a teenager. He rose up the ladder with Zales as a regional manager. For a short time, he owned a bagel business in Austin, Texas, with his family. Finally, he landed in a career that he loved when he joined the Washington Prime Group. He started as a General Manager at New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia, Ohio, and then Weberstown Mall in Stockton, California. He was promoted in Columbus, Ohio, as Regional Director of Properties in 2005, and then to Vice President role in 2007, and then ultimately promoted to Senior Vice President, Property Management in 2018. Steve strived to be a motivator and servant leader with his work family because he cared so deeply about them.
Being a football official and baseball umpire were his passion. He started the Elite Football Study Group in 2013 so that he could be one of the best officials on the fields. When he broke his ankle officiating a football game, it was with great determination that he would return to the field, and the following season, he was back out there again. In 2022, he was a member of the crew for the 2022 State Football Final D1 game, and he couldn’t have been more excited to reach one of the highlights of his football career. He participated in five OHSAA state football assignments. Steve became the President of COFOA and a recipient of the Ernie Rush Award in 2024, which is the highest honor in the organization. Steve built friendships with these officials that he cherished like family.
Steve’s personal mission was being a proud supporter of Pelotonia, a community committed to changing the world through innovative cancer research. He would ride his bike as part of the fund-raising campaign for the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – The James.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, OH 43017.
