

Charles “Chuck” Avery Russell, 80, of Duluth, died Monday, June 24, 2013 in Duluth. He was born in Menomonie, WI to Cecil and Doris Russell in 1933. He met his wife Carolyn at Bethany College while they were singing Handel’s Messiah. They married in her home town of Assaria, KS. This coming August would have been their 55th wedding anniversary.
Chuck worked for Wells Fargo Bank for over 36 years starting in the credit department, then as a lending officer, and finally as bank President and served on the Board of Allete (Minnesota Power) and Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation. He enjoyed acting and held roles at Theatre in the Round in Minneapolis and at the Cathedral Church of St. Mark’s in Minneapolis where he was a member and sang in the choir. Chuck relished his Scottish ancestry, loved to plan and prepare lavish Robert Burns parties and played the bagpipe for a time. He also delighted in and supported all the arts, was an avid reader and a dedicated connoisseur of fine, single malt scotch.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joel; sister, Barbara; and sisters-in-law, Helen and Lou.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Tracy (Bernardo Useche) Russell and Jennifer (Adrian) Lenardic; grandson, Nicolas Useche; and brother, John. Chuck is further survived by his nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Miller Dwan Foundation, The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Funeral service will be Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1710 E Superior St, Duluth. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment at Cathedral Church of St. Mark’s in Minneapolis.
