Ed was born on November 28, 1943 to Edward and Rosemary (Miller) Harder, who both preceded him in death. He attended Washington Jr., and Central High School. He enlisted in the Army and was proud to serve his country in Vietnam. He worked for Wilcol Ambulance until they closed and then spent 28 years driving bus for the DTA, retiring in 2002. Ed loved the solitude of the woods and found peace camping, hunting, fishing, and just walking in the woods. He loved watching the wildlife and was blessed to have an abundance of deer in his backyard.
Ed spent the last several years enjoying retirement and spending time with his best buddy Kellen. He was honored to be able to be involved in the second Honor Flight Northland last fall and was humbled to be in the presence of other great veterans.
Ed married Cheryl Welsand in 1985 and together they have a daughter, Leah (John); Ed’s grandchildren, Kellen, Johnathan and Chloe were truly the light of his life.
Ed is survived by two other daughters, Jody and Jamie and their children, Michael, Jesse, Jacob and Haley. He is also survived by two sisters, Karen (Roger), Marge (Mike); brother, Michael; brothers-in-law, Randy (Kay), Neil (Chris); sister-in-law, Janice and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 am until the 11 am celebration of Ed’s life on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 4903 Maple Grove Road in Duluth. Reverend Linda Lundgren will officiate.
