Elaine Hammer

Elaine was born in Pierre, South Dakota on Nov. 28, 1924 to Dr. Roy and Bernice Jernstrom. She graduated from Rapid City, SD High School, attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota Nursing School earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health. Elaine was employed as a Registered Nurse. On Nov. 27th, 1948, she married Richard Hammer in Rapid City, SD.

She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Elaine was also a member of the P.E.O Sisterhood for over fifty years.

Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Dick (1996) and infant son, Douglas (1959).

Survivors include her two children, Kristin Feesl of Florida, David Hammer of Duluth; brother, Dr. Roger (Mary Ann) Jernstrom of Omaha, NE; two grandsons, Nathan Feesl of Mpls,MN and Nicholas Feesl of Florida; one niece and two nephews.

A Visitation will be held from 12:30 until the 1:30 Funeral Service Thursday, Feb. 17th, 2011 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. 1710 East Superior St. Rev. Bill VanOss officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Memorials in Elaine’s name may be directed to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
