Jeannie Marie Jacobson, 58, of Two Harbors, MN died peacefully December 9, 2015 with her husband and children by her side at Essentia Health-St Mary’s in Duluth. Born September 20, 1957 to Carl and Gladys Olson, Jeannie grew up in Duluth, attending Arnold School, Washington Junior High, and graduating from Duluth Central High School in 1975. Following high school graduation, Jeannie attended Duluth Vocational School of Practical Nursing , where she received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1976, a license which she continually maintained.
While at McCarthy Beach State Park, Jeannie met Larry Jacobson. The two fell in love and later married in 1978 at Lakeview Covenant Church in Duluth. Larry and Jeannie resided in Duluth, where their son Christopher was born. In 1989 Larry and Jeannie welcomed three girls, Kimberly, Katie, and Kristi, into the world and found the need to move, in 1991, into a larger home in Two Harbors, MN.
While raising four children, Jeannie also worked as a LPN at St. Mary’s Hospital. She held many positions over her 20-year employment, where a majority of her time was spent in the Birth Place. Jeannie was best known for the exceptional care she gave to new mothers and their babies. She was very proud of her time at SMDC and always hoped to come back to work. She never forgot her work family and the support they gave her throughout the years.
On Easter Sunday in 1995, Jeannie was diagnosed with Leukemia while on a family vacation. Jeannie continued to work until her bone marrow transplant received from her mother in 1996. Jeannie had recently celebrated the 19th anniversary of this transplant with a special afternoon with family and friends.
While Jeannie did not work in a professional setting after her transplant, she never stopped caring for others. For 19 years, Jeannie gave everything she could to ensure the lives and needs of others were always put first. She never gave up hope and enjoyed her life to the fullest. Jeannie enjoyed many weekends at the family cabin in Cross Lake, MN where she would go boating with Larry, waterskiing with the girls, and ice fishing with her son.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys and father-in-law, Lawrence. Jeannie is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Larry Jacobson; children, Christopher (Laura) Jacobson of Proctor, MN, Kimberly (Greg) Moe and Katie Jacobson of Two Harbors, and Kristi (Cory) Svihla of St. Louis Park, MN. Jeannie was a loving Nana to Tatum Lawrence Jacobson. Their relationship was like no other, giving each other a sense of calm and comfort when they both needed it most. Jeannie was a wonderful daughter to Carl (Hazel) Olson and sister to Denise (Dennis) LeMay, Jim (Wendy) Olson, Judy (Craig) Clements, John (Dena) Olson,; mother-in-law Goldie Jacobson; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped in the care of Jeannie over the past 19 years from Dr. Mark Litzow at the Mayo Clinic to the entire 3 East team in the Essentia Health Oncology Department.
Most important to Jeannie was her love and relationship with Jesus Christ. As an active member of Lakeview Covenant as a young adult, and later in life at First Baptist Church in Two Harbors, MN, the family has decided to have both church families be part of her funeral services.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December, 13, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Two Harbors, 602 15th Ave. Two Harbors. The visitation will continue from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Lakeview Covenant Church in Duluth, 1001 Jean Duluth Road. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Two Harbors. Please leave a memory of Jeannie or words of support for the family at www.bellbrothersjarvidowd.com
